ปัญญาวรรค — หมวดปัญญา ๘ บท
อปฺปสฺสุตายํ ปุริโส พลิพทฺโทว ชีรติ / มํสานิ ตสฺส วฑฺฒนฺติ ปญฺญา ตสฺส น วฑฺฒติ.
 คำอธิบาย
This man of little learning grows old like an ox: his flesh increases, but his wisdom does not.
ขุ. ธ. ๒๕/๓๕.
ชีวเตวาปิ สปฺปญฺโญ อปิ วิตฺตปริกฺขยา / ปญฺญาย จ อลาเภน วิตฺตวาปิ น ชีวติ.
 คำอธิบาย
Even when wealth is gone, the wise can still live; but without wisdom, even the wealthy cannot live.
ขุ. เถร. ๒๖/๓๕๐.
ปญฺญวา พุทฺธิสมฺปนฺโน วิธานวิธิโกวิโท / กาลญฺญู สมยญฺญู จ ส ราชวสตึ วเส.
 คำอธิบาย
One who is wise, endowed with knowledge, skilled in organizing work, knowing the right time and occasion — such a one may dwell in royal service.
ขุ. ชา. มหา. ๒๘/๓๓๙.
ปญฺญา หิ เสฏฺฐา กุสลา วทนฺติ / นกฺขตฺตราชาริว ตารกานํ / สีลํ สิรี จาปิ สตญฺจ ธมฺโม / อนฺวายิกา ปญฺญวโต ภวนฺติ.
 คำอธิบาย
The wise declare that wisdom is supreme, as the moon is supreme among the stars; even virtue, glory, and the qualities of the good follow the one who has wisdom.
ขุ. ชา. จตฺตาฬีส. ๒๗/๕๔๑.
มตฺตาสุขปริจฺจาคา ปสฺเส เจ วิปุลํ สุขํ / จเช มตฺตาสุขํ ธีโร สมฺปสฺสํ วิปุลํ สุขํ.
 คำอธิบาย
If by giving up a small happiness one may see a greater happiness, the wise one, seeing the greater happiness, should renounce the smaller.

ยสํ ลทฺธาน ทุมฺเมโธ อนตฺถํ จรติ อตฺตโน / อตฺตโน จ ปเรสญฺจ หึสาย ปฏิปชฺชติ.
 คำอธิบาย
A man of poor wisdom, having gained honour, acts to his own detriment and behaves so as to harm both himself and others.

ยาวเทว อนตฺถาย ญตฺตํ พาลสฺส ชายติ / หนฺติ พาลสฺส สุกฺกํสํ มุทฺธํ อสฺส วิปาตยํ.

Knowledge arises in a fool only to his ruin; it confounds his mind and destroys the good part of the fool.

โย จ วสฺสสตํ ชีเว ทุปฺปญฺโญ อสมาหิโต / เอกาหํ ชีวิตํ เสยฺโย ปญฺญวนฺตสฺส ฌายิโน.
 คำอธิบาย
Though one of poor wisdom and unsteady mind should live a hundred years, better is a single day in the life of one who is wise and meditative.
