พุทธศาสนสุภาษิต นักธรรมชั้นโท

อกฺโกจฺฉิ มํ อวธิ มํ อชินิ มํ อหาสิ เม / เย จ ตํ อุปนยฺหนฺติ เวรํ เตสํ น สมฺมติ.

‘He abused me, he struck me, he defeated me, he robbed me’ — for those who harbour such thoughts, enmity is not appeased.

ขุ. ธ. ๒๕/๑๕.

อจฺจิ ยถา วาตเวเคน ขิตฺตํ / อตฺถํ ปเลติ น อุเปติ สงฺขํ / เอวํ มุนี นามกายา วิมุตฺโต / อตฺถํ ปเลติ น อุเปติ สงฺขํ.

As a flame blown out by the force of the wind goes out and cannot be reckoned, so the sage freed from name-and-body goes out and cannot be reckoned.

อินฺทฺริยานิ มนุสฺสานํ หิตาย อหิตาย จ / อรกฺขิตานิ อหิตาย รกฺขิตานิ หิตาย จ.

The faculties of a person exist for benefit and for harm: unguarded, they are harmful; guarded, they are beneficial.

ขุ. เถร. ๒๖/๓๗๒.

ตสฺมา หิ ปณฺฑิโต โปโส สมฺปสฺสํ อตฺถมตฺตโน / โลภสฺส น วสํ คจฺเฉ หเนยฺย ทิสกํ มนํ.

The wise one, seeing his own good, should not fall under the power of greed; he should drive out the covetous mind.

ขุ. ชา. ปกิณฺณก. ๒๗/๓๙๖.

นกฺขตฺตํ ปฏิมาเนนฺตํ อตฺโถ พาลํ อุปจฺจคา / อตฺโถ อตฺถสฺส นกฺขตฺตํ กึ กริสฺสนฺติ ตารกา.

Benefit has passed by the fool who waits upon the stars; benefit is its own auspicious moment — what can the stars do?

ขุ. ชา. เอก. ๒๗/๑๖.

น สาธุ พลวา พาโล สาหสํ วินฺทเต ธนํ / กนฺทนฺตเมตํ ทุมฺเมธํ กฑฺฒนฺติ นิรยํ ภุสํ.

It is not good for a strong fool to seek wealth rashly; the wardens of hell drag that fool of poor wisdom, as he laments, into a terrible hell.

ขุ. ชา. วีส. ๒๗/๔๒๕.

ปญฺจ กามคุณา โลเก มโนฉฏฺฐา ปเวทิตา / เอตฺถ ฉนฺทํ วิราเชตฺวา เอวํ ทุกฺขา ปมุจฺจติ.

The five strands of sensual pleasure in the world, with the mind as the sixth, have been made known; having lost desire for them, one is thus freed from suffering.

สํ. ส. ๑๕/๒๓.

ปรทุกฺขูปธาเนน โย อตฺตโน สุขมิจฺฉติ / เวรสํสคฺคสํสฏฺโฐ เวรา โส น ปริมุจฺจติ.

Whoever seeks his own happiness by inflicting suffering on others is entangled in enmity and is not freed from enmity.

ขุ. ธ. ๒๕/๕๓.

ปริตฺตํ ทารุมารุยฺห ยถา สีเท มหณฺณเว / เอวํ กุสีตมาคมฺม สาธุชีวีปิ สีทติ.

As one clinging to a small piece of firewood would sink in the sea, so even a rich man relying on laziness comes to ruin.

ขุ. เถร. ๒๖/๓๐๙.

พลํ จนฺโท พลํ สุริโย พลํ สมณพฺราหฺมณา / พลํ เวลา สมุทฺทสฺส พลาติพลมิตฺถิโย.

The moon, the sun, ascetics and brahmins, and the ocean shore each have their power; but the power of a woman exceeds (those) powers.

ขุ. ชา. นวก. ๒๗/๒๖๑.

พหูนํ วต อตฺถาย อุปฺปชฺชนฺติ ตถาคตา / อิตฺถีนํ ปุริสานญฺจ เย เต สาสนการกา.

The Tathāgata arises for the benefit of the many — for the women and men who follow the teaching.

ขุ. เถร. ๒๖/๔๓๗.

ยตฺถ โปสํ น ชานนฺติ ชาติยา วินเยน วา / น ตตฺถ มานํ กยิราถ วสํ อญฺญาตเก ชเน.

คำอธิบาย

Where people are not yet known by birth or by custom, dwelling there among strangers one should not show pride.

ขุ. ชา. จตุกฺก. ๒๗/๑๓๑.

เย จ กาหนฺติ โอวาทํ นรา พุทฺเธน เทสิตํ / โสตฺถึ ปารํ คมิสฺสนฺติ วลาเหเนว วาณิชา.

One who acts according to the counsel given by the wise reaches the safe shore, as the merchants reached the safe shore by the horse Valāhaka.

ขุ. ชา. ทุก. ๒๗/๗๑.

เย วุฑฺฒมปจายนฺติ นรา ธมฺมสฺส โกวิทา / ทิฏฺเฐ ธมฺเม จ ปาสํสา สมฺปราโย จ สุคฺคติ.

One who knows the customs reveres the elders; in this life he is praised, and in the next he goes to a good destination.

ขุ. ชา เอก. ๒๗/๑๒.

รูปา สทฺทา คนฺธา รสา ผสฺสา ธมฺมา จ เกวลา / เอตํ โลกามิสํ โฆรํ เอตฺถ โลโก วิมุจฺฉิโต.

Forms, sounds, smells, tastes, touches and mental objects — these are all the terrible worldly bait; the world of beings is absorbed in these objects.

สํ. ส. ๑๕/๑๖๖.

วิเทสวาสํ วสโต ชาตเวทสเมนปิ / ขมิตพฺพํ สปญฺเญน อปิ ทาสสฺส ตชฺชิตํ.

Even one whose wisdom blazes like fire should, when in a foreign land, endure even the threats of a slave.
