อจฺจยนฺติ อโหรตฺตา ชีวิตํ อุปรุชฺฌติ / อายุ ขียติ มจฺจานํ กุนฺนทีนํว โอทกํ.
Days and nights pass, life wears away, the lifespan of beings comes to an end, like the water of little streams.
สํ. ส. ๑๕/๑๕๙. ขุ. มหา. ๒๙/๑๔๔.
อปฺปมายุ มนุสฺสานํ หิเฬยฺย นํ สุโปริโส / จเรยฺยาทิตฺตสีโสว นตฺถิ มจฺจุสฺส นาคโม.
The life of humans is short; a good person should scorn that life and live as one whose head is on fire; there is no way that Death will not come.

ทหรา จ มหนฺตา จ เย พาลา เย จ ปณฺฑิตา / สพฺเพ มจฺจุวสํ ยนฺติ สพฺเพ มจฺจุปรายนา.
The young and the old, the foolish and the wise — all come under the sway of death; all have death before them.

น อนฺตลิกฺเข น สมุทฺทมชฺเฌ / น ปพฺพตานํ วิวรํ ปวิสฺส / น วิชฺชตี โส ชคติปฺปเทโส / ยตฺรฏฺฐิตํ นปฺปสเหยฺย มจฺจุ.
Whether one dwells in the sky, in the midst of the ocean or in a mountain cleft, one does not escape Death; there is no region on earth where Death will not assail its dweller.

ปุปฺผานิ เหว ปจินนฺตํ พฺยาสตฺตมนสํ นรํ / อติตฺตํ เยว กาเมสุ อนฺตโก กุรุเต วสํ.
Death brings under its sway the one who gathers flowers (sensual pleasures), whose mind is entangled in various objects, unsatisfied in sensual pleasures.

ยถา ทณฺเฑน โคปาโล คาโว ปาเชติ โคจรํ / เอวํ ชรา จ มจฺจุ จ อายุํ ปาเชนฺติ ปาณินํ.
As a cowherd drives the cattle to pasture with his staff, so old age and death drive on the lives of living beings.

ยถาปิ กุมฺภการสฺส กตา มตฺติกภาชนา / สพฺเพ เภทนปริยนฺตา เอวํ มจฺจาน ชีวิตํ.
As the clay vessels made by a potter all end in breaking, so it is with the life of beings.

ยถา วาริวโห ปูโร วเห รุกฺเข ปกูลเช / เอวํ ชราย มรเณน วุยฺหนฺเต สพฺพปาณิโน.
As a river in full flood sweeps away the trees growing on its banks, so all living beings are swept away by old age and death.
