พุทธศาสนสุภาษิต นักธรรมชั้นโท

กลฺยาณิเมว มุญฺเจยฺย น หิ มุญฺเจยฺย ปาปิกํ / โมกฺโข กลฺยาณิยา สาธุ มุตฺวา ตปฺปติ ปาปิกํ.

One should speak only pleasant words, never evil words; speaking pleasant words brings about benefit, while one who speaks evil words comes to grief.

ขุ. ชา. เอก. ๒๗/๒๘.

ตเมว วาจํ ภาเสยฺย ยายตฺตานํ น ตาปเย / ปเร จ น วิหึเสยฺย สา เว วาจา สุภาสิตา.

One should speak words that bring no torment to oneself and no harm to others; such speech is well spoken.

ขุ. สุ. ๒๕/๔๑๑.

นาติเวลํ ปภาเสยฺย น ตุณฺหี สพฺพทา สิยา / อวิกิณฺณํ มิตํ วาจํ ปตฺเต กาเล อุทีริเย.

One should not talk beyond the proper time, nor always keep silent; when the time comes, one should speak in moderation, without rambling.

ขุ. ชา. มหา. ๒๘/๓๓๘.

ปิยวาจเมว ภาเสยฺย ยา วาจา ปฏินนฺทิตา / ยํ อนาทาย ปาปานิ ปเรสํ ภาสเต ปิยํ.

One should speak only lovable words that gladden the hearer; for a good person, disregarding the evil words of others, speaks only pleasant words.

ขุ. สุ. ๒๕/๔๑๒.

ปุริสสฺส หิ ชาตสฺส กุธารี ชายเต มุเข / ยาย ฉินฺทติ อตฺตานํ พาโล ทุพฺภาสิตํ ภณํ.

When a person is born, an axe is born in his mouth; the fool who speaks evil words cuts himself with it.

องฺ. ทสก. ๒๔/๑๘๕.

ยญฺหิ กยิรา ตญฺหิ วเท ยํ น กยิรา น ตํ วเท / อกโรนฺตํ ภาสมานํ ปริชานนฺติ ปณฺฑิตา.

Whatever one does, one may speak of; what one does not do, one should not speak of; the wise recognize the one who does not act but only talks.

ขุ. เถร. ๒๖/๓๐๙.

โย อตฺตเหตุ ปรเหตุ ธนเหตุ จ โย นโร / สกฺขิปุฏฺโฐ มุสา พฺรูติ ตํ ชญฺญา วสโล อิติ.

Whoever, when called as a witness, gives false testimony — for his own sake, for another’s sake or for the sake of wealth — know such a one to be base.

ขุ. สุ. ๒๕/๓๕๐.

โย นินฺทิยํ ปสํสติ ตํ วา นินฺทติ โย ปสํสิโย / วิจินาติ มุเขน โส กลึ กลินา เตน สุขํ น วินฺทติ.

Whoever praises one deserving blame or blames one deserving praise gathers fault with his mouth; through that fault he finds no happiness.

องฺ. จตุกฺก. ๒๑/๔.

สหสฺสมปิ เจ วาจา อนตฺถปทสญฺหิตา / เอกํ อตฺถปทํ เสยฺโย ยํ สุตฺวา อุปสมฺมติ.

Better than a thousand sayings made up of meaningless words is a single meaningful saying, hearing which one is calmed.
