For one who has gone out (attained final Nibbāna) there is no measure; that by which one might speak of him no longer exists for him. When all phenomena (the aggregates and so on) have been removed, all ways of speaking (of what he is) are removed as well.

One should remove all craving that clings — above, below, across and in the middle; for whatever in the world one clings to, by that very thing Māra follows one.

Cut off your attachment to self, as one plucks an autumn lotus with the hand; cultivate only the path of peace, the Nibbāna taught by the Sugata.

One should admonish, one should instruct, one should restrain from what is unseemly; for such a one is dear to the good, but not dear to the bad.

A monk who sees the danger in sensual pleasures, who lives the holy life, free from craving, ever mindful, who has reflected and become quenched — in him there is no wavering.

A ruler who does not abide by the Dhamma and a commoner who does not rely on the Dhamma — both, on leaving this world, go to a bad destination.

For one who has completed the journey, who is free from sorrow, liberated in every way, who has abandoned all ties — there is no burning torment.

One should give up wealth to save a limb, give up a limb to save one's life, and, mindful of the Dhamma, give up limb, wealth and even life — everything.
ขุ. ชา. อสีติ. ๒๘/๑๔๗.
One who is intent upon and whose mind is filled with the Indescribable (Nibbāna), whose heart is not bound to sensual pleasures — such a one is called ‘one who goes upstream’.

Hunger is the worst disease; conditioned things are the worst suffering. Knowing this as it really is, one attains extinction — the supreme happiness.
ขุ. ธ. ๒๕/๔๒.
Splendid royal chariots wear out, and the body too comes to old age; but the Dhamma of the good does not decay — only the good know this with the good.

Those wise ones who meditate, persevering, ever firmly striving, touch Nibbāna, the unsurpassed security from bondage.

Only suffering arises, suffering persists and passes away; nothing but suffering arises, nothing but suffering ceases.

Great king! The Dhamma is the path (to be followed); non-Dhamma is the wrong way (not to be followed). Non-Dhamma leads to hell; the Dhamma brings one to heaven.

The world is bound by delight and roams about through thought; it is through the abandoning of craving that Nibbāna is spoken of.

I (the Tathāgata) see no safety for beings apart from wisdom, energy, restraint of the faculties and the relinquishing of all things.

Those who are devoted to the teaching of the One of Ten Powers, who are unconcerned with worldly matters and strive to abandon birth and death — they attain Nibbāna.

One should sit close to one of great learning and not let learning decay; for learning is the root of the holy life. Therefore one should be a bearer of the Dhamma.

Of paths, the Eightfold is the best; of truths, the Four Statements; of states, dispassion; and of two-footed beings, the Buddha, the One with Vision.

Where name and form cease without remainder — there this name and form cease, through the cessation of consciousness.

In whom there are truth, righteousness, non-violence, restraint and self-control — the noble ones associate with such a one; that is the deathless in the world.

Whatever streams there are in the world, mindfulness is their restraint; I declare mindfulness to be the barrier against the streams; and they are shut off by wisdom.

Those who are calm in mind, prudent, mindful and meditative, with no longing for sensual pleasures, see the Dhamma rightly.

One who has abandoned mental proliferation, which causes delay, and delights in the state free from proliferation — he attains Nibbāna, the unsurpassed security from bondage.
องฺ. ฉกฺก. ๒๒/๓๒๙.
Some ascetics and brahmins declare their own doctrine complete but call another's inferior (deficient); thus they quarrel and dispute, for each calls his own convention the truth.

One who is endowed with right exertion, whose range is the foundations of mindfulness, who is covered with the flowers of liberation, free from the taints — he will attain final Nibbāna.

Truly blissful is Nibbāna, taught by the Perfectly Enlightened One — sorrowless, stainless, secure, where suffering ceases.

Gentleness and non-violence are the elephant’s hind feet; mindfulness and clear comprehension are its fore feet.

One should not pursue base things, should not dwell in negligence, should not embrace wrong views, and should not be a burden on the world.

Through an inferior holy life one attains the state of a ruler; through a middling one, the state of a god; through the highest, one is purified.
