อัตตวรรค — หมวดตน ๓ บท
One should not neglect one's own good for the sake of another's, however great. Knowing one's own good, one should be intent upon it.

As one instructs others, so should one act oneself. One who is well-tamed may tame others; indeed, it is said, the self is hard to tame.

A wise person should first establish himself in what is proper, and only then instruct others; thus he will not be tarnished.

อัปปมาทวรรค — หมวดไม่ประมาท ๓ บท
One of good wisdom, heedful when others are heedless, awake when others sleep, leaves (the fool) behind, as a swift horse leaves a weak one behind.

Glory grows for one who is diligent, mindful, pure in deed, who acts with consideration, is restrained, lives by the Dhamma and is heedful.

กัมมวรรค — หมวดกรรม ๙ บท
Saying, “It’s too cold, it’s too hot, it’s too late,” one delays and abandons work; thus they let their chances pass by.

One who does not recognize the good done to him and the benefit rendered to him in the past — the aims he desires will come to ruin.

The deceitful, the arrogant, the babbler, the boastful, the conceited and the unsettled do not grow in the Dhamma taught by the Perfectly Enlightened One.

Patience is the principal cause of the virtues of morality and concentration. All wholesome states grow because of patience alone.

จิตตวรรค — หมวดจิต ๑๓ บท
For one of unsteady mind, who does not know the true Dhamma, whose confidence wavers, wisdom is not fulfilled.
ขุ. ธ. ๒๕/๒๐.
A benevolent mind, well and fully developed, is immeasurable; whatever deed has been done in a limited way, that deed will not remain in such a mind.

One who has well and fully developed mindfulness of breathing in and out — neither his body nor his mind trembles.

Whoever restrains the mind that wanders far, roams alone, is formless and dwells in a cave (the body) — he will be freed from Māra’s bonds.

Neither mother nor father nor any other relative can do this; but a well-directed mind does one even greater good.

One who gives what is excellent, what is good and what is best, is long-lived and honoured wherever he is born.

One should carry (one’s wealth) out by giving; what is given is well carried out; what is given has happiness as its fruit, but what is not given is not so.

ธัมมวรรค — หมวดธรรม ๑๓ บท
Whoever teaches the Dhamma to one who practises wrongly — if that one follows his word, he will not go to a bad destination.
ขุ. ชา สฏฺฐี. ๒๘/๓๙.
One of poor wisdom and hard heart, though he hears the Conqueror’s teaching, is still as far from the true Dhamma as the earth from the sky.

Kshatriyas, brahmins, vaishyas, shudras, outcastes and low workers, having practised the Dhamma in this world, become equal in the heaven of the Thirty-three.

One who has craving as his companion wanders long and does not pass beyond this fickle round of rebirth.
ขุ. จู. ๓๐/๓๒๐.
They say sky and earth are far apart, and the shore of the ocean is far; but the Dhamma of the good and that of the bad are further apart than these.

One who is honest, not a babbler, prudent, not arrogant, of steady mind — such a one shines in the Dhamma taught by the Perfectly Enlightened One.

Those dyed with lust, enveloped by the mass of darkness (ignorance), do not see the Dhamma that goes against the stream — subtle, profound and hard to see.

‘He abused me, he struck me, he defeated me, he robbed me’ — for those who harbour such thoughts, enmity is not appeased.

One who is wise, endowed with knowledge, skilled in organizing work, knowing the right time and occasion — such a one may dwell in royal service.

The wise declare that wisdom is supreme, as the moon is supreme among the stars; even virtue, glory, and the qualities of the good follow the one who has wisdom.

If by giving up a small happiness one may see a greater happiness, the wise one, seeing the greater happiness, should renounce the smaller.

If a person would make merit, let him do it again and again; let him take delight in it, for the accumulation of merit brings happiness.

Whoever longs to see the virtuous, wishes to hear the true Dhamma, and has removed the stain of stinginess — him they call a person of faith.
